Upward Bound is a federally-funded educational opportunity program designed to prepare eligible high school students for future success. Approximately thirty students (grades 9-12) attend a six-week academic program participating in educational, cultural, and social activities facilitated by UB staff. Summer 2024 will have a residential component.
Qualifications/Expectations for Tutor Mentor:
Junior, senior, or graduate status after the Spring 2024 semester.
Cumulative GPA of 2.6 or above.
Clear Act 34, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances required prior to employment. Mandated Reporter training is also required.
Adherence to weekly UB prepared work schedules. Some weekend hours are required.
Reside in campus housing while program participants are in the residential program.
Attend the Big Trip which will be July 22-24 and will include overnight travel.
Attend pre-employment meetings and training sessions:
Individual Interview – April 2024
UB Campus Day – May 4, 2024
Staff training – June 10-12, 2024
UB Summer Academy – June 13 through July 24, 2024
(TMs will not be required to work the week of July 4th.)
Compensation:
$14 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, maximum of 6 to 7 weeks
Room and board for duration of summer program
Covered allowable travel expenses when chaperoning trips
Covered allowable travel expenses associated with the Big Trip
