Empowering Local Talent: The McElhattan Foundation Grant Internship Program

PennWest University, in partnership with the McElhattan Foundation, is proud to offer the McElhattan Grant Internship Program — a unique opportunity that brings together talented students and local organizations to build a stronger, more connected regional workforce in Clarion and Venango counties.

What Is the McElhattan Grant Internship Program?

This grant-funded initiative supports paid internships for PennWest students by covering all or part of their wages. The goal is to remove financial barriers for both students and employers, ensuring access to meaningful, career-building experiences while contributing to the vitality of local communities.

Summer 2025 Internship Sites

For Summer 2025, students are interning at:

  • Small Business Development Center
  • Clarion Chamber of Commerce
  • City of Franklin
  • ARTS Oil City

These internships provide hands-on experience in a range of professional settings, from economic development and government services to nonprofit arts organizations.

For Employers: Grow Your Workforce, Support Your Community

The program is open to small businesses, nonprofits, and government offices that:

  • Are located in Clarion or Venango County
  • Would not otherwise be able to fund an intern
  • Can provide supervision and mentorship
  • Are willing to meet timekeeping and communication requirements

Employers receive hands-on support from a dedicated Internship Program Coordinator, making the process easy from start to finish.

For Students: Real-World Experience, Real Impact

PennWest students participating in this program gain valuable experience in professional roles that align with their academic and career goals. The internships are structured to meet academic credit requirements, with weekly hours tailored to fit a 3 or 6 credit experience over a 10-week term. Internships are available in various fields and students from all majors and PennWest campuses can apply.

A Win-Win for Students and Employers

Whether you’re a student seeking experience or an organization looking to develop future talent, the McElhattan Grant Internship Program is a smart investment in the future of our region.
