  • International Internships: Work with global companies, NGOs, or government agencies abroad to develop professional and intercultural skills. 
  • Global Fellowships or Scholarships: Apply for programs like Fulbright, Boren, or Gilman that support international study, research, or teaching.

  • Optional Practical Training (OPT): Obtain temporary employment authorization to gain practical experience in their field of study (for F-1 international students in the United States only.)

  • Review financial aid and scholarships: Look into funding options such as the PennWest Rutledge Internship Fund, institutional scholarships, national fellowships (e.g., Gilman, Boren), or program-specific grants.

🏫 Campus Resources  

  • Visit the International Education Office: Schedule a meeting to learn about available programs, deadlines, and application processes. 
  • Talk to advisors and faculty: Discuss how global experiences can fit into your academic plan and career goals. 
  • Meet with your Career Coach to learn about international internships and funding support like the Rutledge Internship Fund. 
  • Attend info Sessions and fairs: Participate in campus events to hear from program coordinators and students who have participated in international internships or studied abroad. 
  • International students: contact the International Education Office before you begin any type of work in the United States, regardless of if it is paid or unpaid.

📄 Application Process  

  • Start your application early: Give yourself plenty of time to gather materials, write essays, and meet deadlines. 
  • Apply for a passport (if needed): Make sure your travel documents are up to date or begin the application process.
