Upward Bound is a federally-funded educational opportunity program designed to prepare eligible high school students for future success. Approximately thirty students (grades 9-12) attend a six-week academic program participating in educational, cultural, and social activities facilitated by UB staff. Summer 2025 will have a residential component.
Qualifications/Expectations for Tutor Mentor:
Junior, senior, or graduate status after the Spring 2026 semester.
Cumulative GPA of 2.6 or above.
Clear Act 34, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances required prior to employment. Mandated Reporter training is also required.
Adherence to weekly UB prepared work schedules. Some weekend hours are required.
Reside in campus housing while program participants are in the residential program.
Attend pre-employment meetings and training sessions:
Individual Interview – March 2026
UB Campus Day – May 9, 2026
Staff training – June 15-16, 2026
UB Summer Academy – June 17 through July 23, 2026
Compensation:
$17 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, maximum of 6 to 7 weeks
Room and board for duration of summer program.
Covered allowable travel expenses when chaperoning trips.
