TRIO SSS Graduate Assistant
Job Title: Student Engagement and Program Coordinator
Job Role: Under the general supervision of the TRIO SSS Director, the Student Engagement and Program Coordinator (SEPC) will assist in the implementation of SSS programming, including tutoring. The SEPC will offer various academic and skill-based programs. In this role, the SEPC will coordinate volunteer and civic engagement opportunities for program students. The SEPC will also assist with recruitment efforts and various forms of student outreach and communication.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group professional mentoring services
- Present and/or facilitate academic success workshops focused on financial and economic literacy, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, goal setting/prioritizing and cultural/educational events.
- Direct students to support services based on individual needs and follow through to monitor compliance
- Collaborate with SSS and PennWest staff/faculty to coordinate student services
- Assist with social media campaigns/outreach
- Review and study literature on student development theory, financial literacy and academic success coaching/counseling
- Contribute to TRIO SSS Newsletters and other publications
- Attend and assist with recruitment efforts, including attendance at Admitted Student Days, Open House, New Student Orientation and Welcome Weekend events
- Coordinate and promote SSS student volunteer program (beginning fall 2025)
- Assist with overseeing of TRIO Ambassador Program
- Refer and monitor students’ participation in tutoring sessions
- Attend staff meetings bi-weekly
- Other duties as assigned by SSS Director or Academic Advisors/Counselors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent communication skills
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience with student support systems, strategies and coaching/professional mentoring
- Ability to process and protect confidential student files and information
- Willingness and aptitude to initiate, implement and coordinate projects/programs
- Strong desire to promote educational achievement and opportunity
- Willingness to become acquainted with TRIO regulations that govern program policies and procedures
- Independent and self-motivated
- Carry out all duties ethically and professionally
20 hours/week (300 semester), $15.00/hour
