PennWest University’s Residence Life and Housing department is seeking dedicated graduate students to serve as Graduate Hall Directors (GHDs). This live-in leadership role offers hands-on experience in student affairs, supervision, and community development.

Graduate Status
You must be a PennWest Graduate Student for the Fall 2025 semester to be considered for this Graduate Assistantship position. Position Overview
Graduate Hall Directors (GHDs) play a crucial role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging residential environment. Reporting to an Assistant or Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing, GHDs assist in the supervision and development of undergraduate Community Assistants (CAs) while upholding university policies and supporting student engagement. GHDs are expected to serve as role models and demonstrate high moral and ethical standards both on and off campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor Community Assistants (CAs), including weekly one-on-one meetings.
- Conduct staff meetings, assist with CA selection, training, and evaluation.
- Facilitate community-building efforts, Town Hall meetings, and student engagement initiatives.
- Enforce University and Residence Life and Housing policies.
- Participate on the RLH weekend on-call rotation for CAs.
- Provide crisis response and student support as needed.
- Assist in scheduling desk duty, on-call rotations, and floor meetings.
- Attend weekly supervisory meetings and bi-weekly PennWest RLH meetings.
Employment Terms & Compensation
- Full tuition waiver for up to 9 credits per semester (Fall & Spring).
- On-campus housing provided; must reside in assigned housing.
- Campus meal plan purchase required, along with applicable student fees.
- 300 hour stipend per semester at 15-20 hours per week at $7.25/hour (tracked via E-Time).
- Additional paid training period 1-2 weeks before the semester starts.
- Conduct standing must remain in good standing with the university.
- Must complete background checks, paperwork, and training prior to employment.
- Prior residence hall living experience required; previous CA experience preferred.
- Work over breaks is not guaranteed but may be available with advance notice.
- Must vacate on-campus housing within 5 days after appointment ends.
