Graduate Assistant: Student Success Center (Supplemental Instruction – SI & Tutoring Services)
Overview:
PennWest University is seeking dedicated graduate students to join the Student Success Center team as Graduate Assistants (GAs) supporting both the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program and Tutoring Services. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in academic support, leadership, and student success strategies while serving as a key resource for both SI leaders and peer tutors across the California, Clarion, and Edinboro campuses.
Position Details:
- Position Title: Graduate Assistant, Student Success Center (SI & Tutoring Services)
- Hours: 20 hours/week, Fall and Spring semesters (300 hours per semester)
- Hourly Rate: $15/hour
- Location: Assigned campus (California, Clarion, or Edinboro) with remote support for other campuses as needed (via Zoom)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Supplemental Instruction (SI):
- Observe and assess SI sessions to ensure quality and effectiveness, providing feedback to SI leaders.
- Support SI leaders with session planning, student engagement, and professional development.
- Collaborate with the SI program coordinator to implement best practices and improve session outcomes.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data on student performance and SI participation.

Tutoring Services:
- Serve as the first point of contact for peer tutors at the assigned campus.
- Provide tutoring services within the GA’s academic discipline and other approved subjects.
- Educate students on how to request tutoring appointments via Starfish and assist with scheduling.
- Act as a backup tutor as needed to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Promote tutoring services and encourage peer tutors to serve as ambassadors.

General Responsibilities:
- Welcome and assist students visiting our centers, creating a supportive learning environment.
- Identify and report any issues that arise during SI sessions or tutoring appointments to the Director of Tutoring Services, Supplemental Instruction (SI), and Testing.
- Contribute to group tutoring sessions, marketing efforts, and social media outreach as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in a graduate program at PennWest University.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to empathize with students.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Previous experience in academic support services is preferred but not required.
