Job Summary
The Outdoor Recreation (or C.O.R.E.) staff is comprised of a team of undergraduate students that provide various outdoor recreational opportunities, both on and off campus, to students and the broader campus community. Student employees must be committed to maintaining a high level of performance on the job and adhere to a disciplinary code for the office and organization. Staff typically work between 10-20 hours per week, including nights and weekends. Outdoor Rec employees report to the Graduate Assistant for Outdoor Recreation and the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation. Employees in this area need to be open to learning how to lead groups during activities such as mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, etc.
This position requires a one-week training from 8/18/2025 – 8/24/2025. Early move-in to the residence hall is available and lunches are provided during this training.
Basic Qualifications
Be a full time Pennsylvania Western Student (minimum of 12 credits)
Maintain a 2.0 GPA (overall/cumulative)
Be in good judicial standing with the university upon application
Present a well-mannered and professional image
Possess an extensive knowledge of campus programming
First Aid/CPR/AED certified (will provide if necessary)
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintaining weekly office (climbing gym) hours and trip hours
Providing belaying and/or climbing instruction and setting routes as required
Coordinating adventure trip signups
Overseeing and conducting outdoor equipment rentals
Maintaining office (climbing gym) and completing weekly inspections of equipment and facility
Leading adventure trips and managing all day-of-trip responsibilities
Facilitating groups and events at the ropes course
Assisting with equipment repairs and maintenance
Reporting any injuries and/or faulty equipment to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation as necessary
Keeping all files and equipment up to date and inventoried
Conducting maintenance and repairs for bike share program
Attending all staff meetings and fall staff training (week before school starts in August)
Maintaining Ropes Course/Climbing Certifications (We will provide)
Maintaining First Aid Training (We will provide)
This position is physically demanding. Long hours and the ability to backpack or bike long distances is a must.

Hours
Hours will be scheduled by the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation and are limited to 20 hours per week. Early morning, late mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends may be required.
Pay Rate
Employees will be paid $7.25 per hour.
