MUST HAVE A Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (AND must be maintained)

The Embedded Course Mentor (ECM) plays a key role in supporting first-year students as they transition to college life. ECMs attend First Year Seminar (FYS) classes, provide individual mentorship, and help build a sense of community both inside and outside the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (must be maintained)
  • Completion of Peer Mentor Training and summer Zoom training
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated dependability, maturity, flexibility, and appreciation for diversity
  • Must have filed the 2026–2027 FAFSA
  • By applying to this position, you are consenting to a student conduct background check with the university as ECMs must be in good judicial standing

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend assigned First Year Seminar (FYS 1000) class sessions (2–3 times per week)
  • Meet individually with FYS students throughout the semester
  • Support students’ academic and social transition to college
  • Attend Welcome Weekend programming
  • Assist with first year student specific events
  • Accompany students to on-campus activities and events
  • Collaborate with assigned faculty member
  • Promote the Peer Mentoring Program through tabling, social media, and campus events
  • Provide referrals to appropriate campus resources when needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and model appropriate behavior

FYS Course Support:

  • Co-facilitate small group discussions and in-class activities
  • Assist with classroom management and engagement
  • Help prepare and distribute class materials
  • Track attendance and complete administrative tasks as needed

Additional Student Success Center Responsibilities (as needed):

  • Greet and assist visitors to the Success Coaching Center
  • Manage the student sign-in kiosk and appointments via Starfish
  • Answer phones and perform basic clerical tasks
  • Maintain confidentiality and provide quality service to all students

Compensation:

• $10/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Additional hours may be available based on departmental needs.

Availability Note:

Applicants must be available to attend at least one weekly FYS class session (courses meet 2–3 times per week). Scheduling preferences will be discussed during the interview.
