Tips to use AI The Right Way for A Resume

Two things are true:

  • Using AI effectively will help you make a better resume than the one you’d create entirely on your own.
  • No AI tool can do the heavy lifting for you. If you rely on AI entirely, your chances of landing interviews will decrease.

Here’s how to use AI tools the right way

Fix your writing

  • AI is great at catching spelling mistakes, grammar errors, and awkward sentence structures. Let it polish your resume, but don’t expect it to write the content for you. Also, double check your name and personal data. AI can’t correct the information you didn’t provide.
    • Try this prompt: “Check this bullet point for grammar and clarity: [paste your text]”

Make your resume shorter and more compact

  • Most hiring managers spend seconds scanning your resume. AI can help you use concise, impactful language that gets straight to the point.
    • Try this prompt: “Help me make these bullet point descriptions more concise while keeping the important achievements: [paste your text]”

Get feedback and tips to improve it

  • AI can review your resume, fix formatting issues, and suggest improvements like adding numbers to show your impact or highlighting the skills that match the job requirements.
    • Try this prompt: “Rewrite these bullet points using strong action verbs and measurable results”
