Recent Alumni Using Handshake

These instructions are for graduates from the past 150 days.

  1. Add a personal email address to your Handshake account and update the primary email address on your account
    • Login to Handshake
    • To add an additional email to your account, click on your account icon in the upper-right corner of the Handshake screen, then click on Settings from the menu.
    • On the page that loads, scroll down to the bottom of the Account Information section to “Emails” and click on the link + Add another email
    • A text box will appear in that space — enter the personal email address you’d like to add, then click Add to the far right of the text box.
    • The page will update to reflect the pending email address and confirmation needed. You have seven (7) days to confirm the email before it expires.

    • If needed, click the three dots menu to the far right of the email address to Resend confirmation email. If you’d like to remove the address, click Remove.

    • When you click “Confirm” from the email, Handshake will display a prompt indicating your email has been confirmed
    • After you’ve added and confirmed a personal email address on your account you can update your primary email address. 
    • From the Emails section of your Account Information, click the three dots menu to the far-right of the personal email address, then click on Make Primary
    • The update is immediate, and the selected email will move to the top of the list with a purple “Primary” indicator to the right. 
    • Note: Your school email address will remain attached to your account and cannot be removed.
  2. Set up Handshake login credentials with your personal email address
    • If you’re already signed into Handshake, click on your account icon in the upper-right corner of the Handshake screen, and choose Log out.
    • Go to https://pennwest.joinhandshake.com and choose Alumni Login.
    • Type in your personal email address, not your university email.
    •  On the following page, click the blue button Get Started
    • An email is sent to your inbox to confirm your account – Go to your inbox and locate the corresponding email, then click on the link for “Set My Password
    • Once confirmed, you’ll be prompted to create a password, which needs to be at least 8 characters long, with a mix of at least two each of letters, numbers, and special characters. Enter your password in the provided spaces, then click the blue button Next.
    • When you’ve set your password successfully, you’ll have the option to sign into Handshake!
  3. Sign into Handshake as an alum
    • Go to https://pennwest.joinhandshake.com and choose Alumni Login.
    • Type in your personal email address and the password you created.
    • Congrats, you should be signed in to Handshake!
